This nostalgic wooden Japanese tea house with a boat-like exterior is along the Calligraphy Greenway right next to CMP Block Museum of Arts. Half a millennium ago, Mitsuboshien's tea master served Japanese army generals and today the tea house serves cold and hot drinks, as well as matcha-flavored slushies. A TV here shows documentaries about this traditional tea house that educate customers about Mitsuboshien's history. Visitors entering the boat-like structure are charged NT$100 admission, which can used towards purchases. Inside, the wooden tables, chairs and stairs, dimly illuminated by Japanese-style lanterns and decorated with paper umbrella designs, create a nostalgic Kyoto-style ambiance. Prices for the Japanese Baking Tea, Matcha Latte Slushy and various flavors of Uji Ice Cream are NT$145 to NT$210. The Matcha Latte (NT$185) comes with a savory tea-flavored chocolate brick and the staff can guide you in proper tea-drinking techniques (stirring until bubbles appear) and in savoring the original tea flavors before adding milk for a different matcha taste. Purchases of NT$300 or more earn a postcard, which can be mailed to domestic and foreign locations via the mailbox by the entrance.
