        In a country where everything seems to be ceramic, plastic, or fiberglass, handmade wooden bathtubs have a definite appeal. If you want one, be prepared to dig deep and bargain hard. Bathtubs cost up to NT$24,000, and even a simple wooden pail is NT$3,600. However, when one knows how much work goes into these objects, the prices don¡¦t seem so outrageous. A circular container made of bamboo strips and used for steaming Chinese breakfast bread--one of the cheaper items at NT$2,400--takes an experienced craftsman an entire day to make.
