        Soka, headquartered in Tainan but which branch operations in Taipei and Beijing, promotes and sells the works of mainland Chinese artists. The gallery was set up in 1994 by Hsiao Fu-yuan, who says he fell in love with Chinese furniture, ceramics and art around 1980. Of the artists featured here, several were born in the final years of the Qing Dynasty and are now dead, while others grew up in the 1970s. This is serious art for serious collectors, with price tags of NT$250,000 being not uncommon. Soka¡¦s Taipei branch is at 13F, 222, ZhongXiao East Road, Section 4 (tel (02) 8773-6506). During April, Soka Tainan will display the works of Beijing-born artist Xu Min.
