At the British Consulate at Takao you get
beautifully prepared cuisine and a view of SiZih Bay and Kaohsiung
city. Although the restaurant is bustling on weekends, there
is plenty of seating for everyone. The restaurant is part
of the historic building that was constructed by a British
architect in the 1860's. As the first foreign consulate in
Taiwan, it displays a number of historical relics, maps and
models. Most people come for the charming food though! The
menu is large, although most of the "afternoon tea"
food between 2 and 5:30 p.m. would be considered "light".
Three-tiered plates filled with cookies, cakes, sandwiches,
fruit and crackers are enough for 3 to 4 people, and by far
the most popular choice (NT$260 or NT$320). You also get your
choice of coffee, tea, or juice. Other snacks and beverages
are available, including Yoghurt Beauty Drinks (NT$150), which
contain a secret ingredient called "elephant feet".
For dinner you can choose from a small variety of set meals,
all under NT$400. Sorbet and alcohol are also available. History
buffs that enjoy casual dining with a stunning view of the
harbor and the city shouldn't miss a visit to the British
Consulate at Takao.
